Masters athletes (individuals >35 years) increasingly undergo cardiovascular evaluation, raising important questions about risk stratification, imaging interpretation, and safe participation in sport. Clinicians and athletes often ask: Which findings represent physiologic adaptation versus disease? Which imaging or exercise test results signal higher risk? And how should current guideline recommendations be applied to competitive older athletes?

Presented by Elizabeth Dineen, DO, FACC, FAHA

Description: Masters athletes (individuals > 35 years) increasingly undergo cardiovascular evaluation, raising important questions about risk stratification, imaging interpretation, and safe participation in sport. Clinicians and athletes often ask: Which findings represent physiologic adaptation versus disease? Which imaging or exercise test results signal higher risk? And how should current guideline recommendations be applied to competitive older athletes?

This webinar will review atrial arrhythmias, coronary atherosclerosis, aortic dilatation, and myocardial fibrosis in Masters athletes, with emphasis on high‑risk imaging and exercise test findings. A high‑level overview of the ACC/AHA scientific statement on cardiovascular care of the athlete and the ESC/ACC consensus statement on cardiovascular pathology in Masters athletes will be provided. The session will also introduce emerging concepts in sports‑specific cardiac rehabilitation, including dedicated clinical pathways and a precision exercise medicine approach to guide safe return to training and competition.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Identify cardiovascular pathologies in Masters athletes
    2. Differentiate high-risk from low-risk features on cardiac imaging and exercise tests in Masters athletes
    3. Outline features of proposed sports cardiac rehabilitation pathway

Description: There are a number of new lipid modifying agents (e.g., bempedoic acid, injectable and oral agents that modify PCSK9, treatments for lipoprotein(a), and gene therapies) along with a recently updated national dyslipidemia management guidelines that inform this important therapeutic area. Patients and clinicians often have questions: How these medications work? Why they are beneficial? What is my treatment goal? What about side effects and interactions? How long do I take them? This webinar will provide an update on the key recommendations for secondary prevention as per the 2026 ACC/AHA/AACVPR Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia, and an overview of clinical studies and pharmacologic actions of novel lipid therapies. A number of practice changes in the rehab setting related to ascertaining and managing suboptimal risk control (e.g., identifying LDL-C above target, addressing poor adherence to medication, or an education opportunity) will be explored, with the goal that each participant will be able to identify at least one action to incorporate into future care.

    Learning Objectives:
    1. State the LDL-C and non-HDL-C targets for secondary prevention as per the 2026 ACC/AHA/AACVPR Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia
    2. Name at least 4 therapies that can be added to a statin to lower LDL-C
    3. Plan at least 1 practice change related to ascertaining and managing suboptimal risk control (e.g., identifying LDL-C above target, addressing poor adherence to medication, or an education opportunity)
