Description: Masters athletes (individuals >35 years) increasingly undergo cardiovascular evaluation, raising important questions about risk stratification, imaging interpretation, and safe participation in sport. Clinicians and athletes often ask: Which findings represent physiologic adaptation versus disease? Which imaging or exercise test results signal higher risk? And how should current guideline recommendations be applied to competitive older athletes?
This webinar will review atrial arrhythmias, coronary atherosclerosis, aortic dilatation, and myocardial fibrosis in Masters athletes, with emphasis on high‑risk imaging and exercise test findings. A high‑level overview of the ACC/AHA scientific statement on cardiovascular care of the athlete and the ESC/ACC consensus statement on cardiovascular pathology in Masters athletes will be provided. The session will also introduce emerging concepts in sports‑specific cardiac rehabilitation, including dedicated clinical pathways and a precision exercise medicine approach to guide safe return to training and competition.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify cardiovascular pathologies in Masters athletes
- Differentiate high-risk from low-risk features on cardiac imaging and exercise tests in Masters athletes
- Outline features of proposed sports cardiac rehabilitation pathway
